Be a Voice For Animals
Since animals can’t talk like we can, we need to speak up for them. They are abused, neglected, tortured, and killed by humans for unnecessary and selfish reasons. The truth is that we don’t need to use them at all. You may have your opinion, but keep in mind, this is a vegan blog. I have my standards, opinions, and beliefs as well, and I choose to use my blog to share and educate people about veganism.
Animals Need Our Help
There is an overpopulation of many domestic animals because people breed them and do not have them spayed or neutered. There is also many wild animals that are endangered because of people destroying the planet we live on. It is up to us to help them because they cannot help themselves. Domestic animals are dependent on us, and wild animals need for us to take better care of this planet so that they actually have somewhere to live. Nature was doing just fine and took care of itself before humans deliberately wrecked so much of it. Animals exist with us, not for us. The state of the planet is suffering and animal lives are being affected, but we can do something about it. There are people making progress and doing amazing things. We can join them!
What Does Animal Activism Accomplish?
Animal activism tactics are implemented and used to make a positive difference in the lives of animals. Different activism tactics help animals by raising awareness about important issues negatively affecting animals and by educating people about the various dire situations and living conditions many animals are in. It is through animal activism that things change positively in animal lives.
What Can You Do?
There are so many things you can do to help animals, which is why I wanted to dedicate an entire blog post to the topic. Some tactics take more work than others, some require more involvement, but don’t ever let anyone tell you that you aren’t making a difference if you don’t do a certain tactic. All tactics are great, important, and needed. Read on to find out what you can do to help animals!
Now On To the Different Animal Activism Tactics!
Pamphlets, Bookmarks, Bumper Stickers, and Stickers
Stickers, bookmarks, bumper stickers, and pamphlets are great for leaving at public places with a lot of visibility. Parks, restaurants, libraries, coffee shops, boutiques, stores, hotels, college campuses, festivals, sporting events, etc. You can go to veganoutreach.org for materials. You can even write your own notes/messages on paper to leave at places and events for people to see or make your own stickers, bookmarks, and/or pamphlets to distribute. Plant Based Punk Rock (check out her vegan and environmental activism message art) has some great stickers she created that are available in her shop.
Bags, Buttons, and Shirts
Shirts, bags, and buttons are all amazing in communicating a message to people about veganism. Wear these in places that you will be seen. If you are shy, using these is an effective way to convey an important message to others. On the other hand, they can be a great conversation starter as well. They are fun, cute, appealing, funny, clever, or serious. There are tons of different sources of vegan message apparel and accessories to shop for online. Search for them!
Writing
Writing is such an incredible way and platform to use for animal activism reaching many people. There are various forms of writing. Films, TV, web series, books, blogs, articles, plays, etc. are all effective ways to get the word out about different ways people can raise awareness and help animals.
Photography
Photography is an integral way to share animal activism with people. Some pictures taken of animals are beautiful and vibrant, while some are graphic and heartbreaking. Both are important in showing plus educating people how animals live and how we can help them. Pictures are everywhere online, in the media, in films and documentaries, videos, magazines, and books. Look around and determine what the picture you see is telling you.
Films, Blogs, and Videos
Films and online are the other two best ways (besides books) to educate people on the importance and necessity of animal activism. Documentaries, blogs, and videos educate people about animals. Some films and videos can be fictitious, and some can be reality. Blogs can be factual or opinionated. All are important ways to spread messages about animal activism to reach many people.
Social Media
Whatever social media platform you choose, you can make a positive difference on it. Use it as a way to share your thoughts, educate, and advocate. It’s an awesome way to spread word fast, far, and wide about veganism.
Art
With so many different forms of art, there are countless ways to use art for animal activism. Forms of art include paintings, sculptures, dancing, graphic design, fashion, drawings, jewelry, pottery, makeup, etc. Art can contain messages and meanings about anything, so why not use it to advocate for animals? It can be a massively effective form of animal activism.
Vote with Your Dollars
Any time you spend and invest your money on vegan products, companies, organizations, establishments, and brands, you are advocating for veganism while supporting vegan businesses. Any time you support a vegan business, you are communicating that you want and use vegan products and brands. Vegan businesses can grow and thrive with continued support. By supporting them, you are giving the world the message that vegan businesses are in demand.
Positive Reviews, Suggestions, and Recommendations
If you like the product or service you paid for from a vegan business, leave a review for them. Share in your review what you liked about them and why other people should support it. Leave the vegan business a note of your appreciation. While you’re out, you can recommend vegan companies and products that you love and use. Share with people why you love the vegan products you use and why they should check them out. You don’t have to stop at recommending only to your friends and family.
Recommend them to leaders, politicians, doctors, authors, filmmakers, the media, etc. and other people with authority and influence. You can even do this in on online space through blogging, video, or social media. If you’re somewhere that lacks vegan options whether it’s a store, boutique, bakery, or restaurant, leave them suggestions of why you want them to have vegan options. Communicating to them that you expect and would appreciate vegan options from them, lets them know what they can do to improve as well as gives them the understanding that veganism is not temporary or a trend.
Public Speaking and Events
There are many different events that give the opportunity to showcase veganism. Some events are focused only on veganism while others aren’t. These events may be festivals, fairs, a roundtable, a panel, a conference, or a meetup. Meetups are a great way to put together a gathering of people and have a discussion about veganism, a vegan potluck, a vegan cooking class, a film viewing showing a documentary about animals, or a Q and A about veganism. There are many different animal activism ideas you can implement into events. If you like speaking in front of people, public speaking would be perfect for you to educate people about veganism.
Volunteer and Donate
Volunteering your time and donating your money or other items needed to vegan organizations and foundations is huge! This tremendously helps animals. There are so many animal sanctuaries, rescues, and shelters that need your support. They are able to help animals because people donate and volunteer. Any time you visit an animal sanctuary, rescue, or shelter, tell people about
it!
Protests, Demonstrations, and Marches
Many demonstrations, protests, and marches are held throughout the year in various cities and locations. Attend one or start your own. Invite others to participate with you. All of these are ways of helping animals by educating people and showing them the truth about what animals are forced to go through while giving people ways they can help.
Create Your Own!
As the saying goes, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” If you don’t like something, change it! If there aren’t many vegan options around you, create your own vegan company, products, brand, blog, film, show, podcast, videos, foundation, festival, event, or organization. Put more vegan creations into the world while advocating for animals! Create as a form of animal activism to share with the world.
Ending Thoughts
There are so many animal activism tactics you can do to help animals. I probably didn’t even list all of them in this blog post, but this list will give you a great start and effective ideas of what tactics you can use to advocate for animals. No tactic is better than the other. Each one is important and can make a positive difference. Find your way to help! Lead by example. Share why you live vegan, your story, and your experience.
