Vegan Fashion

We don’t need to use animals at all. That means we don’t need to consume them or their by-products, wear them, use products that have parts of them or that have been tested on them, use them for work or use them for entertainment. It’s not necessary at all, and it’s not “humane” or nice. They literally cannot give us their consent to be used, and it’s common sense and decency to see that they don’t want to die, be put in danger, be abused, expolited, or neglected. Fashion is one of the ways that animals are used the most. People wear wool, silk, leather, down, crocodile, aligator, and snake skins, cashmere, fur, animal-derived glue/adhesives, etc. Clothes, shoes, handbags, jackets, and other accessories can be made of materials that do not come from animals. There are so many options, and it keeps getting better.

Ethical and Sustainable

It’s easy to find vegan fashion, but to take it a step further is to find vegan fashion that’s also ethically and sustainably made. Ethically made means that no slave labor or sweatshops were used in the making of the product. Instead, it’s being fair and appreciative to the people that make the products. Sustainably made means that no toxic chemical ingredients and materials were used in the making of the product. To make the product,  pure plant materials and/or recycled materials are used. There are options, and they keep the animals, people, and environment in mind by helping them all.

Gunas

Gunas is a vegan brand and company that makes handbags, and they are the most gorgeous bags I’ve ever seen. What is particularly special about Gunas is that the founder truly cares about animals, people, and the planet. It is evident in her mission. Her name is Sugandh G. Agrawal, she is vegan, and through Gunas, she shows that fashion doesn’t ever have to include cruelty of any kind towards animals and people while not damaging the planet as well.

In one of the brand’s blog posts, it is listed how powerfully and effectively impactful vegan fashion is. One Gunas bag = one cow saved, recycled scrap metal, five recycled plastic bottles, a sanctuary supported, artisan family’s livlihood, women owned small business, passion unlimited, and fashion uncompromised. Read more about ethically handmade in the blog post here. These bags have a variety of styles, designs, sizes, and colors perfect to use anywhere. Gunas also makes beautiful vegan shoes, other lovely accessories, and soap bars that are made with pure plant ingredients. Also, read about ethical vegan fashion vs. fast vegan fashion in their blog post here. It’s all about ethics and quality.

Purusha People

Eyes have not only been opened to the horrors that animals go through, but also to how badly people are treated and used (and the environment as well) in fashion. One of the industries that illustrates this the most is the athlesiure clothing, like yoga leggings, sports bras, and exercise apparel. Hayley and Nadya make activewear by hand called Purusha People. Nadya sews all of the clothes, and Hayley dyes aTnd prints all of the clothes.

Their clothing is made from eucalyptus tencel, making it an amazing plant based fiber alternative to petroleum based polyesters and nylons, as noted on their website. Read about why eucalyptus is a much better option than polyester and nylon on their website where they explain here. They give back by donating a portion of each sale to worldvision.org. Their clothing is made in a variety of sizes. They have yoga leggings, yoga bell bottoms made from organic cotton, yoga shorts, yoga bras and bralettes, and yoga rompers and bodysuits in beautiful rich colors.

Noize

Noize is outerwear that is vegan, cruelty-free, and made with recycled plastic bottles. They have so many jackets to choose from: light, heavy, windbreakers, rain, puffers, bombers, parkas, etc. for every need and function with all kinds of styles and colors. So awesome and fun.

Jackie Lutze

Jackie Lutze is an ethically made, sustainably sourced, and cruelty-free vegan fashion brand and company of simple and elegant blazers, skirts, pants, blouses, and dresses made from organic cotton, linen, tencel, and hemp using fair trade and ethical practices as well as being woman owned. Jackie Lutze is the founder, and she is vegan. On their website, it is pointed out that fashion is one of the largest industries that contributes to environmental pollution, so it’s wonderful to see brands doing it a better way without harming the environment. There are blog posts on their website about vegan fashion in detail, plant based sustainable fabrics, and tips for having a sustainable closet.

Cult of Coquette

I couldn’t write a vegan fashion blog post without including shoes, of course, since so many women love shoes. If you appreciate gorgeous, chic, and high style shoes, you’ll adore these ethically styled and cruelty-free vegan shoes by Cult of Coquette. Bebe Roxana is the vegan founder of Cult of Coquette, and she proves that you can have elegance and beauty with her vegan shoes that are colorful, beautiful, stylish, and of high quality.

Beyond Skin

Beyond Skin is a vegan designer shoe brand that uses sustainable materials and ethical practices to make elegant, classic, timeless, and gorgeous shoes. Vintage yet contempory, their shoes are designed in England and ethically handcrafted in Spain using luxury sustainable Italian fabrics. They have blog posts about choosing vegan leather shoes, vegan shoes can be high quality shoes, vegan shoes don’t have to be bad for the environment, fast facts for wearing non-leather shoes, and what vegan shoes are made of. There are so many styles from boots, flats, heels, pumps, mules, loafers, sandals, to bridal in different designs from this socially conscious company.

Ending Thoughts

In the world we live in today, there is more vegan, cruelty-free, sustainable, and ethical fashion than there ever was, and it is going to keep improving. This is incredibly beneficial to the animals (saves lives!), people (provides living wages in fair conditions), and the environment (less or little to no harm done). All of these companies and brands in this blog post are completely vegan (helps animals) plus use sustainable materials (helps the environment) and ethical practices (helps people).

Most of these companies’ founders live vegan, some of these brands give back in some way, and a lot of them have educational blog posts about vegan, sustainable, and ethical fashion that I’ve highlighted and linked to in this blog post. I hope you check those posts out and the clothes, bags, shoes, and accessories. You can look your best and feel your best in vegan fashion that is also ethical and sustainable.
